Pre-appointment

  • • Please ensure you have updated your Pinterest Board (if applicable) and that you’ve sent any photos that may have been discussed when booking your appointment including pictures of the area and any reference photos if necessary, AT LEAST a week prior to your appointment (booking@jessdoyletattoo.com). Photos should be taken in bright natural light with your body in a relaxed position. For example, sleeve photos should be with your arm relaxed at your side from the front, back, side, and with your arm horizontally at your shoulder with the palm facing forward.

    • Any reference photos sent less than 7 days before a tattoo session may result in a REDRAW FEE.

    • I ask that any communication is done through email to booking@jessdoyletattoo.com to help me stay organized so I can get back to you! Please refrain from using DMs or text as there is a large chance I will not see it.

  • • If there is anything you want to change/add to your idea other than what we discussed at your consultation, you must notify me via email a minimum of one week prior to your appointment.

    • Drawings are ready for the time of your appointment. I often start one to two new drawings per day, so getting ahead of myself would just be impossible! Because of this, I do not email out drawings. Small changes can be made day of, but please be aware any large redraws may result in rescheduling your appointment and require a new deposit.

    • If you need to reschedule, one week’s notice is required. Anything less will result in loss of deposit. (Appointments may be rescheduled a maximum of one time, the second may result in loss of deposit)

  • • Don’t drink alcohol the night before your appointment! I always encourage you drink extra water in the week prior to hydrate your skin!

    • Make sure you eat a big meal within the hour before you come! And bring some sugary snacks. It’s important to keep your blood sugars up and make sure your body feels good!

    • Make sure you wear something dark and comfortable, that allows easy access to the area we are tattooing. Ink usually finds its way onto your clothes, so don’t wear your favourite white silk top/bra/pants.

    • Bring extra things to make you comfy: a sweater in case you get cold, headphones if you want to zone out and relax etc.

  • • The shop address will be sent to you in the appointment info prior to your appointment.

    • There is paid parking available all around the shop. If you are using paid parking, please download the City of Calgary parking app to renew and pay for your parking to not leave the studio multiple times. Download this ahead of time!

    • Please arrive to the shop no sooner than 5 minutes before your appointment. The studio does not have a large waiting area, so please don’t bring anyone else to your appointment.

    • Once you enter the studio, there will be a QR code for you to scan to complete the waiver. We always have coffee, tea, juice, water & snacks available for you as well!

  • • Cash is preferred, but E-transfer or PayPal is accepted as well. Feel free to stop by your bank prior to your appointment. If you are unsure of how much to bring please refer back to your booking email where the estimated rate for your appointment was sent. Please note tax is not included in the pricing.

post-appointment / AFTERCARE

  • Here are aftercare products that have worked well for a majority of my clients. They are readily available at most drugstores.

    • Mild unscented soap

    • Avoid any products with alcohol, as they can be very drying for the tattoo (scented products often have alcohol in it)

    • Aquaphor

      • Comes in a small tube and is about $10. I occasionally carry it in the shop, but I’ve also found it at most drug. stores or grocery stores in the pharmacy section. Be sure to get a tube of it and not the tub so that it stays as sterile as possible. It should last you for a long time!

  • CLEAR BANDAGE

    • Leave bandage on for at least 24 hours.

    • It is preferable to leave it on for 3-4 days to speed up the healing process. (It comes off easier this way too!)

    Bandage Removal:

    • After a minimum of 24 hours, get in a nice hot, steamy shower and hang out for a few minutes, allowing your pores to open.

    • To take off the bandage, roll it down gently against itself.

    • Do not rip the bandage off like a band-aid or you could risk ripping your broken skin (aka your tattoo)

    BLUE OR BLACK BANDAGE

    • Keep it on overnight, at a minimum. At the most, keep the bandage on for 24 hours.

    Bandage Removal:

    • Get in a nice hot, steamy shower and hang out for a few minutes, allowing your pores to open.

    • Using a mild, unscented soap, and hot water, wash off your tattoo using ONLY YOUR HAND and small circular movements. Don’t rub!

    • Wash the tattoo off until you have removed all the blood, excess ink and plasma.

    Post-Bandage Removal:

    • Using a mild, unscented soap, and hot water, wash off your tattoo using ONLY YOUR HAND and small circular movements.

    • If the tattoo still feels "slimy", give it another wash off using the hot water, unscented soap and your hand, until it feels like regular skin.

    • Rinse with the hot water. The tattoo should feel like normal skin when it's been properly washed off.

    • Ideally let your tattoo air dry, or using a clean paper towel/freshly washed towel, you can pat it dry GENTLY.

    Healing Process

    • Do not rub the tattoo with the towel at any point during healing.

    • With clean hands, gently apply a thin layer of Aquaphor immediately after washing each time, or throughout the day when it’s feeling dry.

    • Do NOT let your tattoo get so dry that it will crack.

    • Keep the tattoo clean, washing it once or twice a day, or if it has gotten dirty/sweaty.

    • Continue to wash your tattoo 1-2 times daily, applying the Aquaphor afterwards for 5-7 days after the bandage comes off.

    • After about 2-3 days, your tattoo should have started to dry out and flake a bit (almost like a sunburn). Be careful that you do not let it get so dry it cracks. Using Aquaphor this should never happen, but be careful!

    • After about a week you can switch to your regular lotion.

    • Once completely healed, use a high SPF sunscreen on your tattoo and/or cover it whenever it is exposed to the sun or UV light.

    • No swimming, bath tubs, saunas, hot tubs, sun or UV exposure until the tattoo is FULLY healed, and feels like regular skin again.

    • Avoid working out/exercising for about 5-7 days. Doing so during the healing process can damage your tattoo or lead to infection. You do not want to sweat underneath your second skin.

    • Do not re-bandage your tattoo. It needs the air exposure to start to heal after the bandage comes off.

    • Do not let anything rub on your tattoo while it is healing. Ie. watches, bra straps, jewelry, etc.

    • Do not touch your tattoo with dirty hands.
